Everyone knows Shenzhen and Guangzhou, but a huge share of the world's electronics, plastics, and hardware is actually made in Dongguan — the sprawling manufacturing city sandwiched between them. If you've ever used a smartphone accessory, a power tool, or a molded plastic product, there's a good chance it came from a Dongguan factory. Here's how to source there effectively.
Why Dongguan matters
Dongguan sits at the geographic heart of the Pearl River Delta and is one of the densest manufacturing regions on Earth. Three things make it special for buyers:
- Component depth. Almost every sub-part you need — connectors, PCBs, molds, casings, cables, hardware — is made within a short drive. This makes it the go-to place for complex, multi-part products and rapid prototyping.

- Humen — a traditional textile and apparel cluster, plus logistics.
- Dalang — knitwear and woolen garments.

Factory vs trading company in Dongguan
Dongguan has both real factories and trading companies that resell. The tell is usually the same as elsewhere: real factories can show you a production line, a business license matching the address, and their own workshop photos/video. Trading companies are more flexible but add a markup and less control. QC and inspection considerations
Dongguan's scale cuts both ways: you can find amazing suppliers, but you also get inconsistent quality across workshops.
